·         PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCES/MEETINGS:

 

HOUSING ASSISTANCE COUNCIL (HAC), Washington DC, 2004

 

Hac is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving housing conditions for the rural poor, with an emphasis on the poorest of the poor in the most rural places.

 

Accomplishments:

  • Provided Technical assitance in planning the bi-annual conference.

  • Provided guidance in establishing a conference budget

  • Provided technical assistance in producing a marketing brochure for a Native American Training.

AMERICAN BANKERS ASSOCIATION (ABA)

 

The leading Association providing services to banks large and small.  The ABA produces approximately 8-11 conferences a year for its members.

 

Accomplishments:

  • Provided vendor relations and prepared RFPs.

  • Provided on-site logistical support for various conferences.

  • Assisted in the day-to-day opperations of meeting planning.

 

THE ASSOCIATION FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTIONS 3RD ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA, 2003

 

ACR is a nonprofit association dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution. This four-day conference featured over 100 sessions (15 sessions running concurrently) in the area of conflict resolution.  The conference covered topics such as peace, workplace issues, spirituality conflict resolution models and resolving issues in the family through conflict resolution. 

 

Accomplishments:

  • Handled online and on-site registration for association section conferences for 100-300 attendees.
  • Worked with a Conference Program Committee to develop the program as well as oversee the Request for Proposal process for the Annual Conference.
  • handled all aspects of pre, on-site and post conference activities, including marketing and sponsorship development.  Also worked with vendors, hotel personnel and sponsors to accomplish organizational goals.  
  • As a result of my leadership, the association exceeded revenue projections in the areas of silent auction. Revenues in these areas exceeded 50% over the prior year. The conference also excelled in various other areas.

 

ACRs ENVIRONMENTAL PUBLIC POLICY SECTION CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON, DC, 2003

Sponsored by the Environmental Public Policy Section of the Association for Conflict Resolution, this annual 3 day conference brings section members as well as professionals in the field together to learn about recent developments in the field and discuss current section issues. The highlight of the conference was a bus tour of the cleaning of the Anacostia River. In 2003, the conference received close to 100 registrants.   

 

Accomplishments:

  • Worked with the Conference Chair to develop the program by providing meeting management expertise. 
  • I also lead the brochure phase efforts and handled pre and on-site registration.  I worked closely with vendors and handle on-site and post conference activities.

NAEYC's 11th ANNUAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE IN ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO

Sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Early Childhood Education, the National Institute is a four-day conference targeting leaders in the education field such as teachers, principals and researchers. In 2002, the conference received over 1,500 registrants. 

Accomplishments:

  • Provided direction and vision, including suggestions on improving coordination between departments and revising the post-evaluation process. 
  • Maintained presenter relations, including managing a database with presenter and session information. Conducted mail merges to produce welcome and thank you letters.
  • Served as point person of the conference for internal and external audiences.
  • Conducted site visits.
  • Handled session scheduling, and room assignments.
  • Coordinated room set-up, AV needs and layout. 
  • Handled onsite management on the day of the event.
  • Coordinated an opening reception attended by 200 participants.

The 3rd ANNUAL HISPANIC CONSUMER EXPO 2001

The Hispanic Consumer Expo is an annual exposition focused on providing information, services, and entertainment aimed at the Hispanic population of the Washington DC area. In 2001, an estimated 20,000 people attended this two-day consumer show.  Over 150 businesses, local and federal government agencies and national sponsors such as Univision and the Washington Redskins exhibited their goods and services or showed their support of the area's thriving Hispanic market. 

Accomplishments:

  • Served as Sales Associate directly responsible for promoting vendor and exhibitor involvement in the Home Buying pavilion.
  • Successful in signing the Fannie Mae Foundation as a Sponsor of the Home Buying pavilion, bringing in over $5,000 of additional funds.
  • Despite the economic downturn after the September 11 events, successfully signed on four additional vendors to this event.  
  • Provided event support on various smaller events leading up to and including the Expo on December 1 and 2, 2001.

GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY EVENT MANAGEMENT STUDY TOUR IN PARIS, FRANCE 

With affiliate programs in South America, Europe and Asia. The GW Event Management Program is internationally recognized and respected. The Paris study, tour held in 1999, was developed to give the student an international model for running and producing events outside the United States.

Accomplishments:

·         Observed and participated in behind-the-scenes Bastille Day festivities and other events. 

·         This week-long tour included a visit to different meetings and events industry venues, including the Palais de Congress, a brand-new convention center in downtown Paris. Also, met with Disneyland Paris Business Solutions event planners, to discuss features of the park and various event options. 

GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY EVENT MANAGEMENT STUDY TOUR IN SPAIN

The Spain Study Tour held in 2002, focused on event management, hospitality and marketing trends of international events in Barcelona, Madrid and Seville. 

Accomplishments:

·         In conjunction with GW's sister university in Barcelona, we met with staff at various event sites, such as the former Olympics Complex and the newly remodeled Opera House.  Compared different trends in event management and discussed cultural differences.

·         Met with staff of the Grec Festival to discuss overall event preparation and event logistics. 

 WAVE (We Are Volunteer Employees) PROGRAM

WAVE was established in 1990 to encourage employees of Fannie Mae and the Fannie Mae Foundation to get involved in community service. In 1995, the Points of Light Foundation recognized WAVE with an Award for Excellence in Corporate Community Service.  In 1999, WAVE was again recognized for excellence in employee volunteer programs by the DC Business Volunteer Council and the Montgomery County Corporate Volunteer Council.

Accomplishments:

  • Provided leadership for 11 issues committees.
  • Managed an administrative budget of over $80,000.
  • Maintained nonprofit relationships.
  • Conducted monthly WAVE meetings.
  •  Produced a monthly volunteer opportunity bulletin.
  • Maintained a database tracking volunteer impact. 

·         Under my supervision in 2000, WAVE engaged 1,334 employees in community service that contributed 40,568 volunteer hours to area nonprofits.

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

National Volunteer Week is a week-long celebration of volunteer service.

Accomplishments:

·         Developed communications, marketing, and recruitment strategies to promote National Volunteer Week for the Fannie Mae Foundation campaign.

·        Led the planning of a series of events in recognition of National Volunteer Week, including two training lunches attended by 90 employees, two receptions attended 70 employees and ten service projects.

·         Under my direction, this great effort resulted in over 250 employees participating in community service, which poured over 300 hours of service into the community.

HELP THE HOMELESS WALKATHON EMPLOYEE OUTREACH

The Help the Homelessness Walkathon, sponsored by the Fannie Mae Foundation, raises awareness and funds for DC metropolitan nonprofit homeless service providers. In 2000, the campaign raised more than $6 million for 205 Washington DC area nonprofits.

Accomplishments:

·         Provided guidance and leadership to a group of employee Team Captains.

·         Under my management, the employee campaign recruited 900 employee walkers and raised over $200,000, a increase 10% increase from the previous year.

·         Conducted evaluation meetings and implemented findings in developing strategies for the 2001 employee campaign.

METROPOLITAN BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS FUNDRAISING EVENT

The Metropolitan Boys and Girls Clubs Capital Campaign involved 65 guests and raised over $40,000.

Accomplishments:

  • In addition to raising funds, the event introduced African American leaders to the programs of the Boys and Girls Clubs, securing future funds and creating pivotal relationships.
  • Coordinated an invitation list.
  •  Contracted and coordinated vendors.
  • Crafted a short event's program.
  • Coordinated among the Office of the Chairman of Fannie Mae, Office of the President of the Fannie Mae Foundation and executives from the Metropolitan Boys and Girls Clubs.

GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY EVENT MANAGEMENT STUDENT SOCIETY

The Event Management Student Society is a premier society run by students, adult learners, and event professionals. Consisting of approximately 75 members, its purpose is to promote the event industry through education, networking and volunteer opportunities for its members. I serve on the Board's Program Committee. 

Accomplishments:

·         Contribute to the overall strategic focus of the society.

·         Coordinate monthly meetings. which includes, selecting a general theme, date, time and location as well as confirming speakers/presenters.

BUSINESS VOLUNTEER COUNCIL

The Business Volunteer Council is a professional organization that promotes corporate volunteerism in the Washington DC metro area through innovative partnerships and education.

Accomplishment:

  • In 2001, I served on the Board as Secretary, attended all meetings, participated in strategic planning sessions, and kept meeting minutes.

CHAIR OF THE WAVE CHILDREN'S COMMITTEE

As one of the WAVE issue committees, the purpose of the Childrens Committee is to engage at-risk children from the city in meaningful experiences.  I served as the committee's chairperson from 1998-2001.

Accomplishments:

·         Under my direction from 1998 to 2001, the committee organized field trips and cultural activities to expose children to new experiences. 

·         Recruited volunteer chaperones and partnered with nonprofits.

 PC DONATION PROGRAM

The PC Donations Program, administered through WAVE, was established in 1997 to provide used Fannie Mae and Fannie Mae Foundation computer hardware to nonprofit organizations in the DC metropolitan area. During the first half of 2000, the program provided approximately 100 computers to Washington area nonprofits. 

Accomplishment:

·        Managed the taskforce involved in evaluating the applications and making final selections.

 CREST OF THE WAVE AWARD TASKFORCE

The Crest of the WAVE award is given by Fannie Mae to five volunteers in recognition of outstanding community volunteer service.  Each awardee received a $5,000 contribution to the nonprofit of their choice.

Accomplishment:

  • Under my leadership, a committee of seven employee volunteers evaluated 12 nominations and selected winners based on specific criteria. 

GREATER DC CARES SERVATHON

Greater DC Cares is a coordinator of volunteer services in the Washington metropolitan area, connecting individuals, families, and business volunteers with over 100 community service organizations in the Metropolitan area.  In 2001, I served as Project Leader in a park cleanup during their annual Servathon.

Accomplishments:

·         Directed a group of volunteers in various clean up projects such as trash collection, weeding, and cleaning park gutters. 

·         Under my leadership, the project was completed ahead of schedule.
